Transport in George Town
The portal also provide a transport guide specifically on how to get to Georgetown and how to get around when you are there. While the nearest airport is located just outside the city at Bayan Lepas, the best way to get into Georgetown would perhaps through ferries which arrive at the Weld Quay.
Once inside Georgetown, you will have to find your way using the public transport. The main bus terminal here is located at the KOMTAR building. This is where you can board a bus to take you anywhere in around the city but note that it might get a little confusing as they are not very well systemized. The terminal also provides bus services to the outskirts of the island and toward the mainland as well.
Otherwise, you can choose to take taxis which are widely available in around Georgetown. It would cost roughly about RM10-20 per trip as they do not use taxi meters for your trips. Another common transport here are trishaws, which goes very well with tourists. It costs about RM30 per hour which will bring you to almost all the tourists attractions in Georgetown. This section also includes a directory where you can identify some car rental agencies and those who offer transport services where you can rent a chauffer driven car for a few days.
